How to clean and re-sand your stone bath mat
A diatomaceous earth bath mat absorbs water by drawing it into thousands of microscopic pores — the same property that dries your feet in seconds. With monthly care, your mat will last 3–5+ years without losing absorbency.
Monthly cleaning (5 minutes): 1. Run cool water over the mat to flush out soap residue and skin oils. 2. Wipe both sides with a soft sponge — no soap, no scrub brush. Soap clogs the pores and reduces absorbency. 3. Stand the mat on its edge to air-dry fully (4–6 hours) before placing it back.
Re-sanding (every 3–6 months, or when absorbency drops): If water starts to pool on the surface instead of absorbing, the pores have been sealed by soap or skin oil. Gently sand the top surface with the fine-grit sandpaper that comes with your mat — light pressure, even passes. The pores reopen and the mat works like new.
